[-empyre-] archiving
hi,
some words about computerfinearts collection and the issue of archiving.
the collection started in 2001 as an initiative to support netart.
in the first phase few projects has been purchased and the site took
the role of on line exhibition space for netart works.
later on (& running out of money) the collection continued to expand
through the good will of artists contributing work to the collection.
currently the collection is functioning online with about 15,000 hits
a day.
from the beginning the importance of 'archiving' was a
major part of the collection's objectives and philosophy.
the unfortunate realization was that within the next few years,
technology changes will prevent the projects to function online.
we believed that archiving will allow future online functionality to netart
works.
the collection has been taken a more pragmatic or dynamic approach
toward archiving.
as part of the agreement between artists and the collection, artists
has a free access to the collection's server for updating and maintaining
their projects, adapting to new and future technologies.
and in the case of a 'non functioning' netart object .
see >

the project is documented on the site with the hope to reconstruct it
in the future.
thanks,
doron
